Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are a limited number of such domains. For example:

In some cases, especially in a highly competitive markets, it is advantageous to secure your domain names using several domain name suffixes (eg., yourbiz.com, yourbiz.net, yourbiz.biz).
