If you’ve got multiple email accounts and are maybe on your third or fourth smart phone, you may have wound up with many duplicate contacts. I found a great way to get rid of them. This utility (called Scrubly) will go through them and clean em up for you, once and for all. Works with Outlook, Mac, Gmail and Google Apps and will backup your address book as well.
