A Dynamic Duo, WordPress and Thesis
I specialize in creating and customizing websites using the most popular blogging platform on the planet, er, I mean in the universe — WordPress. WordPress is “a blog publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability.” I also specialize in customizing Thesis. The Thesis Theme framework is “a premium template system for WordPress that is designed to serve as the rock-solid foundation beneath any kind of website.” A few examples of websites running on WordPress include Des Moines University, The Wall Street Journal Law blog, and Anderson Cooper 360 (CNN). Examples of websites that also run on Thesis include The Domino Project (Seth Godin and Amazon.com), Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (UK) and Matt Cutts of the Google Webspam team.
WordPress Blogging Structure and Awesome SEO Utilization Combine to Create Best Practice in Web Design
The combination of these two applications is very powerful; they enable me to create websites that utilize the most tried and true (and easy to use) blog platform and inject it with the awesomeness of some really great Search Engine Optimization (SEO) functionality.
While you don’t have to use the Thesis framework for your website, I do recommend it because of the unequaled power and flexibility this combination provides. I will otherwise customize WordPress with any suitable theme to match your business needs.
Don’t want a blog site? A WordPress website does not have to be utilized as a “blog” site at all, though taking advantage of its blog structure is a wise move.
Utilizing WordPress is a smart way to achieve a solid, semantically sound design. Here’s why:
- Easy to Navigate. Blog sites have similar elements and structure that most users are already accustomed to.
- Easy for Search Engines. Nice, huh? What does this mean for you? It simply means that utilizing the permalink structure of a blog makes it easier for search engines to find your website and to index the pages within. It gets you found!!
- Easily update and manage content. A blog site is easy for anyone to update with little technical ability. Yes, this means that even if you do not know how to code HTML, YOU can update your website information yourself. Of course, if you don’t have the time, you know where to find me.
- WordPress powers 12% of the Internet! This makes it a better choice than other blog platforms. Check out the video below.

I should disclose that there exists an ongoing controversy regarding different interpretations of WordPress GPL licensing from the developers of these two brilliant applications, Matt Mullenweg (WordPress) and Chris Pearson (Thesis). For more on that, listen to an interview featuring both developers from July, 2010 at Mixergy.com. Regardless of the outcome, I believe that Thesis is here to stay and I will continue to use it.
